Btw, did you remember to take take the Glock from your glove box?

No I didnt, but I will do it now. Cheers for the reminder :good:

Thanks again form me and Will for the lift there and back

No problem. I'm just sorry It was late when I got you both home, leaving the site last is sadly the curse of organising things :(

Each gold store sign also had a yellow glow stick cable tied to the top so it would show up, however I did notice at clear up that the US one was no longer illuminated so may have caused some confusion.
In the afternoon I and an other US guy moved the gold back to the assigned store point as it was looking like the Germans must have had it all and not fair to the other teams to hide it in the regen :wife: :waggle: but I do admit to turning a blind eye to it for a while :giggle:

So at this point the Russians got gold feever as they knew the US were more spread out over the full site by this point.

Well, it's all been said above but I'll just add my thanks to Oddball, Porta and Tiny for a valiant and brave first event - three sides plus command and control in the tunnels was always going to be a challenge!

Having been through the trauma of things not going to plan from the off (arriving at the 'Arnhem' site only to find the gates locked and 'Devils Hill' where a bunch of game shooters turned up and threw a wobbly because it was 'their' wood) I felt your collective pain as you dealt with the problem. But throughout the game day where you met difficulties and challenges you showed great common sense, resolve and flexible thinking and met tricky situations head on and resolved them - a mark of good game organisers. It is a fact of life events won't go perfectly to plan. Heh, in my past organising life I came to accept nothing will go to plan - live with it (actually, not true - I never did get to live with it, I was always on a downer after events  ).

As to the event itself - well, Anarchy was the name and it certainly lived up to it. What with swapping allegiances, commanders who cared nothing for the lives of their own men let alone their enemy and would sacrifice all in pursuit or retention of gold, all made for a hectic, confusing and crazy day. Great fun!

Specially remembered: Oddball's tank clattering down the tunnel - sounded like a real one and in all the smoke, where perspective was lost, looked like a real one too. Booms echoing down the tunnels from the field gun (what a pity it didn't lob out shells - airsofters going down like nine pins would have been a hoot  ), Porta's megaphone blaring away incomprehensibly (I'm SOOO annoyed I never thought of that for our Boryzyn game  ), capping many US players in the back  , not feeling the least bit scared when on my own and lurking in the dark (despite all the ghost talk the previous evening  ), hearing a massive fire-fight kick off somewhere nearby and yet by the time I'd worked my way there there wasn't a soul to be seen (very odd, happened three times, just shows how big that place is!).

Great to have a natter with airsoft chums old and new too. All bodes well for an 'Oddball' event next year and I look forward to that - I expect Nigel, Anthony and Paul may just have recovered by then!

Well done chaps!

I do seem to remember having to check my underwear after you came into the swing of my torchlight at one point, quietly knelt down in the tunnel near the German gold store. If I were a suspicious person it would be easy to think you were hiding there yourself, in fear of a ghost attack

Aye, that was me to start with. I was reinforced by some more yanks shortly after. You saw me and shouted out "comrades behind us" and shot some rounds off before seeking cover.

Good day, thanks to all the organisers.

Was fun (watching Porta) pushing the AT gun around half the site and ambushing the yanks during the afternoon. The gameplay after lunch was certainly much more fluid and once we worked out to shoot first and ask questions later we had much more success.

Anne got shot by the AT gun in a friendly fire incident mid afternoon when we were hiding by the cubby hole near the kitchen. Was she the only AT gun kill all day?

Was good to meet MartinR again and some new faces too like Sandy and Rooster and of course Alex, the Russian chap who was playing German (traitor!).

Great to finally see Oddball's tank in action.

Oddball, Tiny, Porta, much respect to you guys. From start of the day to finish I thought you guys managed every situation awesomely.
Had such a blast throughout the day. First time at the tunnels and think they was awesome, especially stumbling accross the banqueting suite in the afternoon. Got lost a few times but as a larger chap being able to hide and not having people six feet away being able to see me made me giggle, unfortunately the truce had been made by then so a lot of german soldiers were saved from going back to their families in a wooden box.
Funniest moment though was being duely chastised by tiny for falling foul of the mighty springer :slap:
an epic fail moment :giggle:

This was my first 'full on' WW2 game for a loooooong time, and boy did it remind me just how much I love it, and should really get off my ares [spelling mistake, intentiona!] and do more of it

It was a hoot. Thanks Oddie, and Tiny and Porta [you completely mad son of a biatch] for organising the whole thing, coping with all the shit, thinking on your feet and making the day what it was. Thanks, too, to everyone who attended and provided so much entertainment :good:

It was good to say hi and speak to a few people I have only communicated with via this forum lately, good as well to meet one or two folks I have never seen in the flesh before, like Oddball, and I finally got to meet and greet the famous Sherman tank. What a hoot that thing is and, as Chommers says, in the dark, and in the confines of the tunnels, it looked and sounded enormous. A bit like the 'fire breathing dragon' from Live and Let Die, or is it Dr. No? :?: :slap:

Like many others I thought the three sides played out very well, what with all the intrigue and double crosses going on. There was a bit of lull in the morning, granted, but it was dealt with effectively and the riotous opening sequence with the Allies charging, suicidally, towards our defensive stronghold was a real blast :happyclap: :happydance: For the Germans, the end of the day was similarly exhilarating as we staunchly defended our scenario-winning stash of gold and fought off all attempts to raid our gold store

The site is awesome, and challenging, to play in in roughly equal measure. I've played there a few times now and I find it quite tiring on the old eyes trying your damnedest to peer through darkness and gloom, and I agree with Tosca that the ammount of pyro let off didn't make life in that respect any easier. Felix is also right, though. He did give us all fair warning about not getting carried away  Nothing like a well placed thermobaric for putting a spring in your step, though eh? :happyclap:

So many highlights, so little time.....the tank, the opening carpet of brown, the last ditch defense of the gold store, that ruddy Ruskie gun and the big ear-splitting bangs, Porta's crazy cossack dancing commissar impersonation, Porta dying in a hail of 6mm plastic for the one hundredth time, dodging pyros lobbed with gusto by over zealous Yankees, riddling Snippy as he ran away from one of the two pyros I threw all day.....

Roll on the next game. I'm certainly going to make more of an effort to turn up to a few more, and I will definitely come to the next one organised by Oddballs. Thanks for a great day, guys! :happydance: :mexican:

We do have an idea for next year that we are looking into involving a large building complex and something that looks like a French Chateau but we have a lot to sort out with this.

In a couple of years we may even go back to the Tunnels and do a re-work of this event as I know people that wanted to go but not able due to date clash, I have said I just don''t know how many would like to do it a second time with the bugs worked out. :?

I think once you have a taste of the tunnels you are almost certain to want to go back.
I'd go to another WW2 game down there at the drop of a hat.
